Marnus Labuschagne Left Out from Australian ODI Team Against Team India

The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from Australia's three-game ODI series versus India, with high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw receiving a unexpected call-up.

Recent Form Lead to Exclusion

Labuschagne has been omitted from the ODI team following scoring just one run in each of his two innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a best innings of forty-seven in his last 10 ODI batting appearances.

The 31-year-old has featured in 68 one-day internationals and scored 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now focus on earning a Test team comeback in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on November 21.

Surprise Inclusion and Other Squad Updates

Labuschagne has shown signs of a resurgence with a score of 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw scored a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his ODI debut in the forthcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Test matches with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also seeking a Test return as Australia search for a solution to their batting top-order problems.

Pace Additions and Fitness Updates

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after taking a break since performing well for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after being concussed in the lead up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins continues to be absent as he hopes to heal from a back injury in time to captain Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Squad Selection Strategy and Fixtures

Australia have named a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-match series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 teams after hitting a ton in the last match against New Zealand to clinch a 2-0 series win last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be some management through the later stages of the series as players get ready for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the preparation for the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare specific players for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on 19 October in Perth, before the opponents play five T20 internationals from October 29.
