Google Plans Investment of $15bn to Establish AI Data Hub in India

AI Data Center
The Nation ranks as a top choice for data centres due to its inexpensive data services and quickly expanding digital audience.

Google's parent company Alphabet is set to invest $15bn to build an AI computing facility in southern India's Andhra Pradesh state.

The facility, to be established in the port city of Visakhapatnam, is going to be a part of Google's global network of artificial intelligence hubs distributed over a dozen nations.

"It stands as the greatest AI facility that we are going to be investing in worldwide, excluding the United States of America," Google Cloud's chief executive announced at an conference in the capital city of Delhi on Tuesday, noting that the financial commitment is to be distributed over the next five years.

The announcement occurs when President Trump of the United States has been encouraging companies from the United States to focus on local funding.

The Expanding Position of India in AI Infrastructure

The country has risen as a major hub for AI data centers. India's inexpensive data services and swiftly increasing internet user base have made it a center for cloud and AI expansion for major tech firms.

"The facility will introduce our cutting-edge technology to enterprises and users in India, enhancing AI innovation and promoting progress across the country," stated Alphabet's chief executive Sundar Pichai.

Initiative Particulars

An official contract to conclude the venture is set to be signed on Tuesday, local government officials confirmed.

"It constitutes a massive leap for the digital progression of our state, technological innovation, and international reputation," said the state's technology minister Nara Lokesh.

The project will integrate cloud and AI infrastructure with sustainable power solutions and an enhanced optical fiber network.

Andhra Pradesh's Data Center Vision

This initiative is included in the state government's strategy to establish 6 gigawatts of data center capability by 2029.

Computing facilities are physical facilities that accommodate the computer and network hardware that companies use to accumulate, handle, retain, and circulate data.

These include servers, storage systems and connectivity devices like routers and firewalls, in addition to the necessary power and cooling systems to run them.

Funding Benefits

In Andhra Pradesh, the local administration has been granting discounted land and electricity to attract international investors.

Industry Growth

The nation's data center sector has expanded quickly during the last five years, surpassing the 1GW capability milestone in the year 2024 and almost increasing threefold its 2019 level.
