Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and enthusiasts have encountered numerous engaging creations from small studios. However, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game features a protagonist that is truly a turd trying to travel to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."
The gameplay is simple: just use a jump control. Across 150 challenges, encounter tough enemies and unlock a market to acquire outfits for your fecal avatar.
Plan your movements with caution, since one wrong move requires restarting the level. Bounce off air pockets to propel your character higher, cross fragile surfaces, and activate switches to open new areas. Collect currency to purchase tougher game content in which things intensifies.
Visually, the game boasts neon environments and a killer music score. The simple graphics of shifting geometric shapes evokes memories of gamers of beloved games like Earthbound.
Even though hard to name previous releases where you play as a piece of feces, gaming frequently included fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players craft grenades from character waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, fecal references appears extensively in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Despite its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already earned notable recognition, like winning at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is ready at present on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to debut on PC on November 19.
