Congress Approves Bill to Disclose Epstein Records

The Senate on this Tuesday quickly approved to a measure that will mandate the disclosure of case documents associated with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, following a near-unanimous vote in the House of Representatives and a change of position by Donald Trump and his Republican allies. The White House gave in after an extended period of trying to delay the joint action involving a scandal that has followed the president since his return to the White House.

Expedited Passage in Congress

The Senate acted by general agreement, which requires approval from each senator but avoids a individual voting process, expediting the process. Just before, the House voted decisively for the bill on a 427-1 tally.

The public have waited long enough. Jeffrey Epstein’s victims have waited long enough,” the Senate Democratic leader declared in a address to the chamber on Tuesday, before urging the chamber to approve it without opposition. “Reveal the truth. Let transparency reign.”

Future Action

The bill next heads to Trump for his signature. The president stated on the previous day that he would sign the measure.

Though the president has for months dismissed the outcry over the authorities' approach of the Epstein case as a “political stunt”, he voiced approval for the House bill over the weekend, and said he would give his assent if it reaches his desk.

Response

The Democratic party, along with those affected and their advocates who were watching from a House gallery, cheered after the bill was passed. Lone dissent came from a GOP representative, who expressed concern he was concerned the measure would disclose specific data of individuals involved, persons of interest and others caught up in the investigation.
