American Military Conducts Lethal Strike in Pacific, Leading to 4 Fatalities

According to a senior defense official, the US military executed a fatal kinetic engagement on a boat in the eastern Pacific, killing four people.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a deadly attack on a craft linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in international waters. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a known drug smuggling route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. All four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no US military forces were harmed.”

Background and Prior Strikes

The statement follows a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the American leader alleged Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund drug trafficking and criminal activities, vowing to increase the military buildup.

Only on Tuesday, the Pentagon stated it had conducted strikes on three boats suspected of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, killing eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 military engagements have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, most off the coast of Venezuela.

Administration Justifies Actions Amidst Scrutiny

The administration has faced growing demands to make public video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, officials have declined to do so. The administration has defended its efforts as a success, arguing it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is stretching the bounds of lawful warfare.

Although the administration has said the campaign is about stopping drugs destined for the US, comments from a top official appeared to suggest a wider political aim. In a recent interview, the chief of staff remarked the president “aims to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”

This indicates the military campaign may be linked to a strategy to remove Venezuela's sitting leadership.
